Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 3/4 cup cold butter, cut into small cubes
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup whole milk
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 450°F (230°C).
- Cut the cold butter into small cubes and keep refrigerated until needed.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and cream of tartar.
- Cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients using a pastry cutter until pea-sized pieces remain.
- Add the egg and milk.
- Stir gently until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Transfer the dough to a generously floured surface.
- Sprinkle the top with flour and knead gently 10–15 times.
- Pat the dough to about 3/4 to 1-inch thickness.
- Cut biscuits using a biscuit cutter or drinking glass.
- Place on a lightly greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 10–15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Brush with melted butter before serving if desired.
