McDonald’s Apple Pie: Better Homemade!

  • Author: Lusine Svetlana

Description

If you love the iconic crispy apple pies from McDonald’s, this homemade version delivers the same golden, flaky texture with a rich cinnamon-apple filling—only fresher and even more flavorful. Baking them at home gives you full control over sweetness, ingredients, and texture, making these hand pies a perfect dessert or snack for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • ¼ cup (2 oz/57 g) butter
  • 4 apples, peeled, cored, and finely diced
  • ⅔ cup (4 oz/115 g) brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • 3 teaspoons cornflour
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 batches puff pastry (homemade or store-bought)
  • Egg wash (1 egg beaten with a little water or milk)
  • Cinnamon sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper
  2. In a saucepan, melt butter and add apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, and lemon juice
  3. Cook over medium heat until apples soften and liquid reduces
  4. Mix cornflour and water to form a slurry, then stir into apple mixture
  5. Cook for 2 minutes until thickened, then remove from heat
  6. Let filling cool completely before using
  7. Roll out puff pastry to about ⅛ inch thickness
  8. Cut into 8 rectangles (approx. 4.5 x 6 inches)
  9. Place 1–2 teaspoons of filling in the center of each rectangle
  10. Brush edges with egg wash or milk, fold over, and seal with a fork
  11. Cut small slits on top for ventilation
  12. Brush tops with egg wash and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar
  13. Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden and crisp
  14. Serve warm

Notes

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or caramel sauce for extra indulgence
Pair with coffee or tea for a cozy treat
