These homemade treats are perfect for snacking, gifting, parties, or satisfying your chocolate cravings.

Ingredients

For Milk Chocolate (Makes 15 Pieces)

  • ⅓ cup cacao butter, chopped or grated
  • 2½ tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon milk powder
  • 2 tablespoons confectioner’s sugar or powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

For White Chocolate

  • ⅓ cup cacao butter
  • 3 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk powder
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
  • A tiny pinch of salt (optional)

Instructions

How to Make Milk Chocolate

  1. Fill a small saucepan with 2–3 inches of water and bring it to a boil over medium-high heat.
  2. Reduce the heat to medium and place a heatproof mixing bowl over the saucepan, making sure the bottom does not touch the water.
  3. Add the cacao butter to the bowl and allow it to melt completely, stirring occasionally. This usually takes 2–3 minutes.
  4. Remove the bowl from the heat.
  5. Sift the cocoa powder, milk powder, and powdered sugar into the melted cacao butter.
  6. Add the maple syrup, salt, and vanilla extract.
  7. Stir gently for about 30 seconds or until the ingredients are combined. The mixture may remain slightly grainy.
  8. Carefully pour the chocolate mixture into silicone chocolate molds or mini cupcake liners.
  9. Refrigerate for 30–45 minutes or freeze for approximately 20 minutes until completely firm.
  10. Gently remove the chocolates from the molds and enjoy.

How to Make White Chocolate

  1. Prepare a double boiler by bringing water to a gentle boil in a saucepan.
  2. Place a heatproof bowl over the saucepan without allowing it to touch the water.
  3. Add the cacao butter and stir until completely melted and smooth.
  4. Remove the bowl from the heat.
  5. Add the powdered sugar, milk powder, vanilla extract, and salt.
  6. Stir gently for about 30 seconds until the ingredients are combined. A slightly grainy texture is normal.
  7. Pour the mixture into silicone chocolate molds.
  8. Refrigerate for 30–45 minutes or freeze for about 20 minutes until firm.
  9. Carefully remove the chocolates from the molds and serve.

Notes

  • Serving: Enjoy homemade chocolate straight from the refrigerator or let it sit at room temperature briefly before eating.
  • Dessert platter: Arrange milk and white chocolates together with strawberries, nuts, and dried fruits.
  • Gift idea: Place the chocolates in decorative boxes or small wrappers for homemade holiday and birthday gifts.
  • Refrigerator storage: Store chocolates in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2–3 weeks for best quality.
  • Room temperature: Keep them in a cool, dry place away from sunlight and heat. Homemade chocolate without proper tempering may soften or lose its shine.
  • Freezing: Place chocolates in an airtight freezer-safe container and freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw gradually in the refrigerator before serving.
  • Avoid moisture: Make sure all bowls, utensils, and molds are completely dry before preparing the chocolate.
  • Prevent melting: Avoid leaving homemade chocolates in warm areas because cacao butter melts easily.
  • Make ahead: Prepare the chocolates several days before an event and keep them refrigerated until serving.
