Description

Grilled Potatoes in Foil are an easy and delicious side dish perfect for backyard barbecues, camping trips, or family dinners. Tender potato slices are seasoned with butter, onions, and simple spices, then cooked inside foil packets until perfectly soft and flavorful. These versatile potato packets can be made on the grill, in the oven, or over a campfire.

 


Ingredients

  • 3 pounds potatoes, sliced into ¼-inch rounds
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste
  • Optional toppings of your choice (such as cheese, herbs, mushrooms, or peppers)

Instructions

  1. Spray four pieces of aluminum foil with cooking spray.
  2. Wash and slice the potatoes into ¼-inch thick slices.
  3. Thinly slice the onion.
  4. Divide the potatoes evenly among the foil sheets.
  5. Add sliced onions and any optional toppings.
  6. Place butter over each portion.
  7. Season generously with salt and black pepper.
  8. Fold and seal each foil packet tightly.
  9. Grill over medium heat for about 30 minutes.
  10. Carefully open one packet to check if the potatoes are fork-tender.
  11. Serve immediately with your favorite toppings.

Notes

  • serve alongside grilled steak, chicken, burgers, fish.
  • Top with shredded cheese, sour cream, fresh herbs before serving.
  • Open the packets carefully to avoid hot steam.
  • Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
  • Reheat in the oven, microwave, air fryer, or skillet until warmed through.
  • Freeze cooked potatoes for up to 2 months, although the texture may become slightly softer after thawing.
