Description
French Cream Puffs are light, airy pastries filled with sweet vanilla whipped cream and finished with a delicate dusting of powdered sugar. Made with simple ingredients, these elegant treats are perfect for holidays, parties, afternoon tea, or a special homemade dessert.
Ingredients
For the Choux Pastry
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup water
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 4 large eggs
For the Cream Filling
- 1 cup heavy cream, chilled
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
For Garnish
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Combine the butter, water, and salt in a medium saucepan. Heat until the butter melts and the mixture begins to boil.
- Remove from the heat and add all the flour at once. Stir vigorously with a wooden spoon until a smooth dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
- Let the dough cool for about 5 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition until the dough becomes smooth, glossy, and slightly elastic.
- Pipe or spoon 12 small mounds of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving about 2 inches between them.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, until the puffs are golden brown and well risen. Avoid opening the oven during the early baking stage.
- Transfer the puffs to a wire rack and let them cool completely.
- In a chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
- Slice each cooled puff horizontally and fill the bottom half with whipped cream.
- Replace the tops and dust with powdered sugar.
- Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.
