Ingredients
- 1½ pounds ground beef
- 1 tablespoon butter, divided
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 4 large eggs
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon mustard powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 teaspoon butter or cooking spray for greasing the baking dish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round pie plate or an 8 × 8-inch baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
- Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it into small crumbles as it cooks. Drain excess grease if necessary.
- Transfer the cooked ground beef to the prepared baking dish and spread it evenly.
- Add the remaining butter to the skillet. Cook the diced onion for 5–7 minutes, stirring frequently, until softened and translucent.
- In a medium bowl, whisk the eggs with garlic powder, mustard powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the ground beef, allowing it to settle around the meat.
- Spread the cooked onions evenly over the top.
- Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the entire surface.
- Bake for approximately 20 minutes, or until the eggs are set and the cheese is melted and bubbly. The center should reach 160°F (71°C) for food safety.
- Let the cheeseburger pie rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
- Serve warm with your favorite low-carb side dishes.
Notes
- Serving suggestions: Serve with a crisp green salad, roasted broccoli, cauliflower mash, or steamed green beans.
- Classic cheeseburger toppings: Add chopped pickles, sliced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, or a spoonful of sugar-free ketchup when serving.
- Make ahead: Brown the beef and cook the onions in advance. Refrigerate them separately, then assemble and bake when ready.
- Refrigeration: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3–4 days.
- Freezing: Freeze individual portions in freezer-safe containers for up to 2–3 months for best quality.
- Reheating: Warm individual slices in the microwave in short intervals or reheat in a 325°F (165°C) oven until heated through.
- Prevent sogginess: Drain excess grease from the beef and avoid adding watery vegetables without cooking them first.
- Check doneness: The egg mixture should be fully set in the center before serving.
