Description
These Chocolate Number Cookies are rich, buttery, and wonderfully chocolatey with a soft, crisp texture. Cut them into any numbers you like, then decorate with melted chocolate and sprinkles for birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, or any special celebration.
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ cup butter, softened
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- ½ cup chocolate chips
- 2–3 tbsp milk, if needed
Instructions
- Cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract and mix until well combined.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until a dough forms.
- Fold in the chocolate chips. If the dough feels too dry, add milk one tablespoon at a time.
- Wrap the dough and refrigerate for 20–30 minutes.
- Roll the chilled dough out to about ¼ inch thick on a lightly floured surface.
- Cut the dough into numbers using number-shaped cookie cutters.
- Place the cookies on a lined baking tray, leaving a little space between them.
- Bake at 170°C (340°F) for 10–12 minutes.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking tray briefly, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Decorate with melted chocolate, sprinkles, or other toppings if desired.
Notes
- Serve the cookies at room temperature with coffee, tea, hot chocolate, or milk.
- Arrange the numbers on a dessert platter to match the age or year being celebrated.
- For birthdays, decorate with colorful sprinkles, icing, or edible glitter.
- Store completely cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
- Place parchment paper between decorated cookies to prevent them from sticking together.
