Ingredients
- 5 pounds apples, cut into chunks (remove any bruises)
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice (optional)
Instructions
- Slice apples into large chunks and place them in a 4–6 quart slow cooker.
- Add brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, vanilla extract, and optional pumpkin pie spice. Stir to coat the apples evenly.
- Cook on low for 8–10 hours, until apples are very soft.
- Puree the apples using an immersion blender or in a food processor until smooth.
- Return the puree to the slow cooker and cook on high, uncovered, for 1 hour to thicken.
- Allow to cool, then store in airtight containers.
