Pizza Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

  • Author: Lusine Svetlana

Description

Pizza grilled cheese sandwiches bring together the best of two beloved comfort foods: pizza and grilled cheese. This easy-to-make recipe features crispy, buttery bread layered with gooey mozzarella cheese, tangy pizza sauce, and spicy pepperoni slices. Perfect for a quick lunch or satisfying snack, these sandwiches deliver bold flavors and melty goodness in every bite.

Ingredients

Garlic Butter:
¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
Main Ingredients:
Bread slices
Mozzarella cheese, shredded or sliced
Pepperoni slices
Pizza sauce or marinara sauce

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, mix softened butter with minced garlic to create garlic butter.

  • Spread garlic butter evenly on one side of each bread slice.

  • Place one slice, buttered side down, on a skillet over medium heat.

  • Layer mozzarella cheese, pepperoni slices, and a spoonful of pizza sauce on the bread in the skillet.

  • Top with another slice of bread, buttered side up.

  • Cook until the bottom slice is golden brown and cheese begins to melt, about 3-4 minutes.

  • Carefully flip the sandwich and cook the other side until golden and cheese is fully melted.

  • Remove from heat and let cool for a minute before slicing and serving.

Notes

Serve pizza grilled cheese sandwiches immediately while they are hot and the cheese is perfectly melted for the best taste and texture. They pair wonderfully with a fresh side salad, a bowl of tomato soup, or even some crunchy pickles to balance the richness.

If you have leftovers, allow the sandwiches to cool slightly, then wrap them tightly in plastic wrap or foil and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. To reheat, use a skillet or toaster oven to warm the sandwich and restore the crispy bread and melty cheese—avoid microwaving as it can make the bread soggy.

For longer storage, assembling the sandwiches without cooking and wrapping them well in plastic wrap or freezer-safe bags allows you to freeze them for up to one month. When ready to eat, thaw overnight in the refrigerator and then grill as usual.
