Magic Cookie Bars

  • Author: Lusine Svetlana

Description

Magic Cookie Bars, also known as 7 Layer Bars or Hello Dolly Bars, are one of the easiest desserts you can make for parties, potlucks, or family gatherings. With just a handful of pantry staples, you can create a chewy, gooey, and irresistible dessert that everyone will love. The combination of a buttery graham cracker crust, sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, coconut, and crunchy pecans makes these bars a true classic.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 ½ cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 ⅓ cups shredded or flaked coconut
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or other nuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a 9×13 baking pan with parchment paper or foil (greased if using foil).
  2. Melt the butter in the baking pan in the oven or in a microwave-safe bowl.
  3. Mix the graham cracker crumbs into the melted butter and press evenly into the bottom of the pan to form the crust.
  4. Pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the crust.
  5. Sprinkle chocolate chips, shredded coconut, and chopped pecans over the milk layer.
  6. Press the toppings gently with the back of a spoon or measuring cup to help them set.
  7. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden brown.
  8. Remove from the oven and, if not using parchment, run a knife around the edges to prevent sticking.
  9. Allow the bars to cool completely before cutting into squares or rectangles.

Notes

Magic Cookie Bars are best served once they are completely cooled and set. Cut them into small squares or rectangles for easy serving, especially if you are bringing them to a potluck or party. They pair perfectly with coffee, tea, or a glass of cold milk. For storage, place cooled bars in an airtight container with parchment paper between the layers to prevent sticking. They will keep at room temperature for up to 5 days or in the refrigerator for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze the bars by wrapping them individually in parchment paper and sealing them in a freezer-safe container or bag. They can be frozen for up to 3 months and thawed at room temperature before serving.
