Follow this simple recipe to create a batch of homemade mozzarella cheese sticks that everyone will love.

Ingredients

  • 12 mozzarella string cheese sticks
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Marinara sauce, for dipping

Instructions

1. Prepare the Mozzarella Cheese Sticks: Cut the mozzarella cheese sticks in half to make 24 pieces.

2. Season the Breadcrumbs: In a shallow bowl, combine the breadcrumbs with Italian seasoning, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.

3. Coat the Mozzarella Sticks: Dredge each mozzarella stick in flour, shaking off any excess. Dip the floured mozzarella sticks into the beaten eggs, ensuring they are evenly coated. Roll the egg-coated sticks in the seasoned breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.

4. Freeze the Mozzarella Sticks: Place the coated mozzarella sticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Freeze for 30 minutes.

5. Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line another baking sheet with parchment paper.

6. Bake the Mozzarella Sticks: Arrange the frozen mozzarella sticks on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them apart. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until golden and crispy.

7. Serve: Serve immediately with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

Serving Tips:

  1. Serve Hot: Mozzarella cheese sticks are best enjoyed right out of the oven when they are hot and the cheese is melty. Serve immediately for the best texture and flavor.
  2. Dipping Sauces: While marinara sauce is a classic choice, you can also serve these cheese sticks with ranch dressing, garlic aioli, or a spicy sriracha mayo for variety.
  3. Garnish: Add a touch of freshness by garnishing with finely chopped parsley or a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese before serving.

Storage Tips:

  1. Refrigeration: If you have any leftover mozzarella cheese sticks, let them cool completely before transferring them to an airtight container. Store them in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  2. Reheating: To reheat, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Arrange the cheese sticks on a baking sheet and bake for 5-7 minutes, or until heated through and crispy. Avoid using the microwave as it can make the coating soggy.
  3. Freezing: For longer storage, you can freeze the baked mozzarella cheese sticks. Place them in a single layer on a baking sheet and freeze until solid. Transfer the frozen sticks to a freezer-safe bag or container. They can be stored in the freezer for up to 2 months.
  4. Reheating from Frozen: To reheat frozen mozzarella cheese sticks, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the frozen sticks on a baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until heated through and crispy.
