Homemade Peanut Butter Dog Treats

  • Author: Lusine Svetlana

Description

If you’re a pet parent, you know that your dog deserves the best, especially when it comes to snacks. Store-bought dog treats can be loaded with artificial ingredients, but with this Homemade Peanut Butter Dog Treats recipe, you can create a delicious and healthy snack that both you and your dog can feel good about. This recipe is quick, easy, and requires only a few simple ingredients that are safe and nutritious for your pup.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 egg
  • ½ ripe banana (mashed)
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour

Instructions

1. Preheat the Oven and Prepare Your Pan
Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking pan with parchment paper, ensuring that your dog treats won’t stick during baking.

2. Mix the Ingredients
In a mixer, combine the creamy peanut butter, egg, mashed banana, and maple syrup. Beat the ingredients together until fully incorporated. Slowly add in the whole wheat flour and continue mixing until a dough forms.

3. Roll Out the Dough
Flour your countertop, then roll out the dough to a thickness of about ½ inch. This dough will be slightly crumbly, but don’t worry—it’s perfect for shaping! If you need to firm up the dough, simply add 2-3 tablespoons of water to adjust the consistency.

4. Cut Out the Dog Treats
Using a dog-themed cookie cutter, cut out treats from the rolled-out dough. Arrange the shaped cookies on your prepared baking sheet, ready to go into the oven.

5. Bake and Cool
Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the treats for 15-25 minutes, or until they are golden brown. Once done, remove them from the oven and let them cool completely before serving them to your dog.

Notes

Serving Suggestions
These homemade peanut butter dog treats are a great way to show your dog some love. Serve them as a reward during training sessions, after walks, or simply as a treat any time of day. You can also break them into smaller pieces for puppies or smaller breeds to make portion control easier. Always ensure that the treats are the right size for your dog’s breed and size to prevent any choking hazards.

Storage Tips
To keep your homemade dog treats fresh, store them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. If you’d like them to last longer, you can refrigerate them, which will keep them fresh for up to 2 weeks. For even longer storage, these treats freeze well! Simply place them in a freezer-safe container or bag, and they’ll last for up to 3 months. Just thaw them before serving to your dog.
