Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • ½ small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 beef bouillon cube
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon butter or oil if the pan is lean

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef, diced onion, and minced garlic in a skillet over medium heat until no pink remains.
  2. Do not drain the fat; if the skillet is very lean, add 1 tablespoon butter or oil.
  3. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Sprinkle in the flour and cook for 2 minutes, stirring constantly to form a roux.
  5. Gradually add milk, beef broth, and the beef bouillon cube, stirring until smooth.
  6. Cook over medium heat until the gravy thickens and becomes bubbly.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Serve hot over biscuits, mashed potatoes, rice, or toast.

Notes

  • Serve immediately over biscuits or mashed potatoes for a classic meal.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat gently on the stovetop or microwave, adding a splash of milk if needed to restore creaminess.
  • Freezing is possible; store in a freezer-safe container for up to 2 months and thaw overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
