  • Author: Lusine Svetlana

Description

Grinch Balls are a whimsical and tasty no-bake holiday dessert that adds a pop of color and charm to any Christmas celebration. Made with crushed red velvet Oreos, creamy cheese filling, and coated in green candy melts with a red heart on top, these Oreo truffles are as fun to make as they are to eat. Perfect for cookie exchanges, holiday platters, or a fun project with the kids, Grinch Balls are the ultimate sweet treat for the season.

Ingredients

  • 24.4 ounces Red Velvet Oreos (2 packages, about 44 cookies)
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 15 ounces light green candy melts
  • Red candy hearts (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Prep the tray
Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

  2. Crush the Oreos
Add Oreo cookies to a food processor and pulse into fine crumbs. Alternatively, place them in a plastic bag and crush with a rolling pin.

  3. Mix with cream cheese
In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth using an electric mixer.

  4. Combine the mixture
Add the crushed Oreos to the cream cheese and mix until fully combined into a thick dough-like consistency.

  5. Form into balls
Use a 1.5-inch cookie scoop to portion the mixture. Roll into smooth balls with your hands and place on the prepared baking sheet.

  6. Chill the balls
Refrigerate the Oreo balls for at least 2 hours to firm up before dipping.

  7. Melt the candy coating
Reserve ½ cup of candy melts for drizzle if desired. Melt the remaining candy melts in a double boiler over low heat, stirring frequently until smooth.

  8. Dip the balls
Using a fork or toothpick, dip each chilled Oreo ball into the melted candy. Let the excess drip off and place back on the baking sheet.

  9. Optional drizzle
If using a drizzle, melt the reserved candy melts in a piping bag using the microwave on defrost for 30 seconds at a time. Snip the tip and drizzle over the balls.

  10. Top with red hearts
While the drizzle is still wet, place one red candy heart on top of each Grinch Ball.

  11. Set and serve
Return the tray to the refrigerator and chill until the coating is fully set.

Notes

Serving Tips

  • Serve Grinch Balls chilled straight from the refrigerator for the best texture and flavor.

  • Arrange them on a festive holiday platter with red and green decorations to enhance their visual appeal.

  • Add them to cookie trays, dessert tables, or wrap them individually for holiday gift giving.

  • If you’re serving at a party, place them in mini cupcake liners for a neat presentation and easy grabbing.

Storage Tips

  • Refrigeration: Store Grinch Balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7 days. Use parchment or wax paper between layers to prevent them from sticking.

  • Freezing: To store longer, freeze the balls in a single layer on a baking sheet. Once frozen, transfer them to a freezer-safe container or bag. They can be frozen for up to 2 months.

  • Thawing: When ready to eat, transfer the desired amount to the refrigerator and let them thaw overnight.

  • Avoid Moisture: Always keep the container sealed tightly to prevent moisture from affecting the candy coating’s texture.
