Easy Homemade Hot Chocolate

  • Author: Lusine Svetlana

Description

There’s nothing better than a warm cup of homemade hot chocolate on a cold day. This recipe is incredibly simple, using real cocoa powder and chocolate chips for that deep, rich, and creamy flavor that instant mixes can’t compare to. Whether you’re cozying up by the fire, hosting a winter gathering, or just craving something sweet, this homemade hot chocolate will instantly lift your spirits and satisfy your chocolate cravings.

Ingredients

• 4 cups milk (2%, whole, or half & half – higher fat makes it creamier)
• 1/4 cup cocoa powder
• 1/3 cup granulated sugar
• 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
• 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, combine the milk, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and milk chocolate chips.
  2. Whisk the ingredients together until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  3. Continue whisking as the mixture heats up, allowing the chocolate chips to melt completely.
  4. Heat for about 5 minutes or until the hot chocolate reaches your desired temperature.
  5. Remove from the heat and whisk in the vanilla extract.
  6. Pour into mugs and serve immediately. Add whipped cream, marshmallows, or a dusting of cocoa powder on top for extra indulgence.

Notes

Serve your homemade hot chocolate immediately for the creamiest, richest experience. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently on the stovetop or in the microwave, whisking to restore smoothness. Avoid boiling to prevent the milk from curdling.
