Perfect for breakfast, a snack, or a dessert, this recipe is a must-try for any banana lover.

Ingredients

  • 11/2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 13/4 cups ripe bananas, mashed (about 3 or 4 bananas)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Brown Butter Frosting:

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 11/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat Your Oven and Prepare the PanHeat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease and flour a 15×10-inch jelly roll pan to ensure your brownies come out easily and have a lovely, golden finish.
  2. Prepare the Brownie BatterIn a large bowl, beat together the sugar, sour cream, butter, and eggs until creamy. Blend in the mashed bananas and vanilla extract until well combined. Gradually add the flour, baking soda, and salt, mixing until just blended. If using, stir in the chopped walnuts.
  3. Bake the BrowniesSpread the batter evenly into the prepared pan. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  4. Make the Brown Butter FrostingWhile the brownies are baking, prepare the frosting. In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter, allowing it to cook until it turns a delicate brown color. Remove from heat immediately to prevent burning. Add the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk, whisking until smooth. The consistency should be thicker than a glaze but thinner than traditional frosting.
  5. Frost the BrowniesOnce the brownies are baked and still warm, spread the brown butter frosting evenly over the top using a spatula. The frosting will spread more easily while the brownies are warm.

Notes

Serving Tips

  1. Cool Completely Before Serving: Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before cutting them into squares. This ensures cleaner cuts and prevents the frosting from smudging.
  2. Use a Sharp Knife: For the best results, use a sharp knife or a bench scraper to cut the brownies into squares. This helps in achieving clean, neat edges.
  3. Pair with Your Favorite Beverage: These brownies pair wonderfully with a glass of cold milk, a cup of coffee, or even a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent treat.
  4. Serve at Room Temperature: While you can enjoy these brownies warm, they are best served at room temperature. The frosting sets nicely and the flavors meld beautifully after a few hours.

Storage Tips

  1. Store in an Airtight Container: To keep your brownies fresh, store them in an airtight container. This helps maintain their moisture and prevents them from drying out.
  2. Room Temperature or Refrigeration: Banana Bread Brownies can be kept at room temperature for up to 3 days. If you plan to keep them longer, store them in the refrigerator where they can last for up to a week.
  3. Freezing for Later: If you’d like to keep your brownies for an extended period, freeze them. Place the brownies in an airtight container or wrap them tightly in plastic wrap, then place them in the freezer. They can be frozen for up to 3 months. To thaw, simply leave them at room temperature for a few hours before serving.
  4. Reheat for Warmth: If you prefer your brownies warm, gently reheat them in the microwave for a few seconds or in a preheated oven at 300°F (150°C) for about 10 minutes.

By following these serving and storage tips, you can enjoy your Banana Bread Brownies at their freshest and most delicious!
