Description
Country Apple Fritter Bread is a warm, comforting quick bread inspired by the classic apple fritter donut. This homemade loaf features tender buttery bread layered with cinnamon-sugar apples and finished with a sweet old-fashioned glaze. Each slice delivers soft cake-like texture, pockets of juicy apples, and swirls of cinnamon brown sugar that taste like they came straight from a bakery.

- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- Apple Bread Batter
- 1/2 cup butter, softened
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs, room temperature
- 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 cup milk or almond milk, room temperature
Apple Filling
- 2 large apples, peeled and chopped small (Granny Smith recommended)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Old-Fashioned Cream Glaze
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1–3 tablespoons milk or cream
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.
- In a small bowl mix brown sugar and cinnamon together and set aside.
- In another bowl whisk together flour and baking powder.
- In a separate large bowl beat butter and granulated sugar until light and creamy.
- Add eggs one at a time mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the vanilla extract.
- Gradually mix in the flour mixture alternating with the milk until the batter becomes smooth.
- In a separate bowl toss the chopped apples with sugar and cinnamon.
- Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread evenly.
- Add half of the apple mixture on top of the batter.
- Sprinkle half of the brown sugar cinnamon mixture over the apples.
- Pour the remaining batter into the pan and spread gently.
- Add the remaining apple mixture and sprinkle the remaining cinnamon sugar mixture on top.
- Use a knife to lightly swirl the layers together.
- Bake for about 55–60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Allow the bread to cool in the pan for about 15 minutes then transfer to a wire rack.
- Mix powdered sugar with milk or cream to make the glaze.
- Drizzle glaze over the cooled loaf before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Serve the bread slightly warm to enhance the apple and cinnamon flavor. It pairs well with coffee, tea, or warm milk. Slice the loaf thick for a bakery-style presentation. For a dessert option, serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
- Store leftover bread in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Refrigerate for up to 5 days to maintain freshness. To reheat, microwave slices for about 15 seconds or warm them lightly in the oven.
- This bread also freezes well. Wrap the loaf tightly in plastic wrap and foil before freezing. It can be frozen for up to 3 months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator before serving.
